Joel Burleson
Rock/pop

Ki:Theory (key•the•o•ry)  v.  1. a mantic approach to all things. – n. 2. alternative music arising esp. from trip-hop, folk and rock music, 3. musician(s) who perform live. 4. Joel Burleson. [< J. and Gk.]

Ki:Theory is the vision Joel Burleson is living to create. Finding inspiration in various mediums of art, science and eastern philosophies while exploring the spectrum of emotion, his songs portray sincere images of the human experience, conscious and subconscious.

With three releases and appearances with very diverse artists such as Jimmy Eat World, Sparta, and Lake Trout, Ki:Theory has received heavy commercial and college radio airplay.  However, after many frustrated years dealing with major labels and a revolving cast of supporting band members, the creator, singer, songwriter and leader, Burleson took total control of Ki:Theory.  On tour you can see Ki:Theory performed as a full band, or the solitary Burleson.

Tired of the stale modern rock genre, Burleson evolves by filling the role as producer on Ki:Theory’s highly anticipated fourth release.  With his self-taught production style and knack for solid songwriting, Burleson seamlessly blends genres ranging from the deep funk and hip-hop style of break sampling, a.k.a. trip-hop (DJ Shadow, Portishead), to the organic tones (Sparklehorse) of rock (U2) and classic folk music, all the while maintaining a razor sharp edge.

Burleson allows unprecedented access to fans in the making of the fourth release with “The Recordio Sessions,” a work-in-progress EP that gives a peek into the creative process as the recording continues in the studio.  The demand for show bootlegs also led Ki:Theory to offer digital downloads of all performances available within 48 hours. “The Recordio Sessions” and bootlegs can be downloaded at the Official Ki:Theory web site, www.kitheory.com.

There seems to be no end in sight for the talented young musician while the underground buzz continues to grow.  Nothing can sway him in his quest to expose Ki:Theory’s music to the masses.  Look for Ki:Theory’s fourth official release on Kringer Records in the Spring of 2004.

"Almost all of the songs I write begin on my acoustic guitar.  I've played with other brands of acoustic strings but they just don't get any better sounding then Elixir® Strings."
