Robb Houston is a guitar player, vocalist and writer with experience both in and out of the studio.  Having been taught at age 5 by his father, it’s no surprise that music has always been an intrinsic part of his life.

During his first year of college, Robb moved to Nashville, TN to attend Belmont University and to be closer to the music industry.  After graduating with a Bachelor’s Degree in Music Business, he began writing for the MTM Music Group.  Robb’s writing efforts eventually helped him land a recording contract with independent label, Carlyle Records.

While signed to Carlyle, Robb set up his own publishing company, Durand Music/BMI. As a recording artist, he wrote a multitude of songs, many of which appeared on his Carlyle album, Dream State.  During this period, Robb also performed his music live at some of Nashville’s most prominent clubs and city wide events, including Summer Lights which drew over 10,000 people the year he performed.

Upon leaving Carlyle, Robb seized an opportunity to go on tour with newly formed country act Brother Phelps, featuring Ricky Lee and Doug Phelps of the Kentucky Head Hunters.  He went on tour with them as their lead guitarist for 3 years, opening for acts such as George Jones, Reba McEntire, Diamond Rio and many others.  Between concert performances, he continued to work on studio projects, including recording an album with writer/vocalist Steve Mandile for Magnatone Records.

After the Brother Phelps tour ended, Robb began working with Grammy award winning artist Randy Travis as his acoustic guitarist and background vocalist.  Traveling with Randy not only gave him the opportunity to perform in some of the largest venues both in and outside the USA, but also on some of the most popular television programs on the air.  TV shows he’s appeared on include The Tonight Show with Jay Leno, The Late Show with David Letterman, The Rosie O’Donnell Show, Good Morning America, Live with Regis and Kathy Lee, The Howie Mandel Show, The Grand Old Opry, Donny and Marie, Prime Time Country, The View, and many more.  He also appeared in multiple nationally released music videos with both Randy Travis and Brother Phelps.

Robb decided to leave the Randy Travis tour when he reconnected with Steve Mandile (now an aspiring producer) for a band project that would become known as The Remnants and later as Sixwire.  With the support of Warner Bros. Records, Sixwire’s self-titled debut album was well received by radio.  Their single “Look At Me Now” reached 23 on the charts, with the accompanying music video making top 10 on both CMT and GAC.  You can learn more about Sixwire by visiting www.sixwire.com.

Robb’s parents, Jim and Deana Houston, reside in Tennessee, just outside of Nashville. His father is retired from a management position at The Williams Company.  His mother holds a degree in Graphic Arts and continues to create artwork to this day.  His brother Jim Houston Jr. lives in Texas and works in marketing and advertising.

"I love Elixir® Strings!  I really dig the coating.  The slick feel makes for great action. Not only do they last much longer, but I am also finding I don't have to wipe my strings down so often.  Thanks for a great product!"
