Always a little unpredictable, Drew Nelson has been honing his craft of songwriting and performing in places as different as Alaska, Ireland, Las Vegas, and even the prestigious Kerrville Folk Festival in Texas. Drew has been called "a poet", "a raw talent", "edgy", and "a passionate performer".
Recording artist Edwin McCain said, "...Drew is a great acoustic talent. In a sea of flashy music and hype, his songwriting prevails". Singer/songwriter Caroline Aiken paid Drew the ultimate performer complement saying he is a "Hard act to follow!" John Serba, music critic for the Grand Rapids Press, said of his debut CD "It (Recovering Angels) follows the path of songwriters both classic (Tom Waits, Joni Mitchell) and contemporary (Sarah McLachlan, Shawn Mullins) building melancholy folk-rock songs that are touchingly human and vibrant in their vulnerability. The hot therapeutic tea on a sore throat."
He has shared the stage with the likes of Edwin McCain, Caroline Aiken, Tom Prasada-Rao, Alice Peacock, Angie Aparo, Howie Day, Bob Schneider, Jeffery Gaines, and John McVey to name a few; has had over 100,000 mp3.com downloads; and licensed every song from "Recovering Angels" to network television. He was a featured artist on the "Standing Together" compilation CD that raised over $10,000 (and still climbing!) for after school programs for at risk children in his community.
Drew's lyrical content - heartache, chance meetings with old friends and the universal struggle about why we exist - is traditional folk. His performance - high energy, passionate, and tinged with anger - is all rock-n-roll.
Drew currently is working on his sophomore CD.
