Liz Queler
Jazz/Fusion;Folk

Hailed by Billboard Magazine as "a singer's singer" Liz Queler spent last year exploring the musical landscape.  From Carnegie Hall to coffeehouses, TV jingles to jazz standards, she has been using her vast vocal resources in a variety of projects.

Known primarily as a singer/songwriter with three critically acclaimed CDs to date, in the fall of 2002 Liz made her Carnegie Hall debut as a soloist in Leonard Bernstein's "MASS", a production that was recently repeated with the Dallas Symphony to commemorate the 40th anniversary of the assassination of John F. Kennedy.  The fall also brought Liz back to the studio to record her fourth album, a long awaited CD of jazz standards performed with husband/producer/pianist Seth Farber.  (Seth is currently assistant conductor at the Broadway show "Hairspray" and tours with folk/blues legend Odetta.)

A native New Yorker and the daughter of esteemed opera conductor Eve Queler, Liz grew up on the stages of Lincoln Center as a member of the New York City Opera Children's Chorus.   Liz discovered folk music during high school, and jazz in college when after graduating from Tufts University, she attended Berklee College of Music to study jazz, piano, and guitar.  Liz followed her songwriting muse back to New York where she gained entrance to the folk scene as backup singer for widely respected Red House recording artist Cliff Eberhardt.  This was a significant step on the path to recording her own solo albums.   Recognized by The Boston Herald as "one of the most beautiful singers and melodic writers on the coffeehouse scene today" Liz maintains a strong presence in the folk community.  She has performed at the Newport Folk Festival, the Kerrville Folk Festival and many top listening rooms on the East Coast including The Bottom Line in NYC and The Birchmere in Washington, DC.  She's opened for artists such as Richie Havens, Cheryl Wheeler, Steve Forbert, Janis Ian, Guy Clark, and many others.

An accomplished songwriter Liz's rich, soulful music reflects her diverse musical upbringing.  She has won songwriting awards from Billboard and the National Academy of Popular Music as well as first place in the 2002 LadySixString Songwriting Contest.  Her song "Cry" from her second CD "Silent Witness" was licensed for use by the soap opera Passions.   Liz also sings and composes for TV and film scores (including Disney's The Little Mermaid, Barney's Great Adventure, and PBS's Wisdom of Faith), and commercial jingles (Exxon, Gatorade, Sprite, Meow Mix, etc.).  She also sang the great Rodgers and Hart standard "My Funny Valentine" for an American Masters series biography on Lucille Ball, which airs nationally on PBS.

These days, there are countless numbers of artists.  Only a few, however, possess a distinctive singing voice and the ability to write intelligent songs with beautiful melodies.  Liz belongs to this special group.

Various producers in NYC.  I recently sang a soundtrack for a PBS special on the life of St. Patrick, which airs March 14th.  My highlight for 2003 however was performing with the Dallas Symphony in a production of Leonard Bernstein's "Mass" during which I also played a solo guitar accompaniment for the main character at the opening of the piece.
