Artist, Songwriter, Producer and, owner of Curtis Wright Songs ASCAP, Mailbox Money Music ASCAP, Blair's Boy Music ASCAP, and The Wright Stuff Music BMI.
Curtis was born the fourth of seven to Blair and Donna Wright in Huntingdon, PA, 9am, June 6, 1955.
In 1980, Curtis became the lead guitarist/singer and writer for the Super Grit Cowboy Band from Kinston, NC, home of Michael Jordan, the basketball great. After recording 3 albums with the band, he joined up with the very hot, and very versatile band Cimmaron- writing and co-producing 2 additional albums for the Bent Tree Records Label in Roanoke, VA in 1984.
Curtis relocated to Nashville, TN in January 1987 and within 6 months landed radio commercials as a vocalist for Burger King, Maxwell House Coffee; as well as working the road and playing guitar with country great Vern Gosdin as a member of his KMA Band. David Briggs of Muscle Shoals fame and partner Will Jennings (composer of Titanic theme as well as many Steve Winwood hits) became Curtis' first publisher and together, they celebrated his first two of four #1 songs. Curtis also composed "Too Much Fun" by artist Daryle Singletary a Billboard #4 hit which was to become one of ASCAP's "50 Most Performed Songs of the '90's". That's a milestone in any writer's career.
In 1992, hit Nashville producer James Stroud recorded Curtis' first solo record for Liberty Records. In 1993 Stroud pared Curtis with his #1 co-writer Robert Ellis Orrall and became new label Giant Records' first duo. And with their first offering, Orrall and Wright were nominated for the coveted CMA's Duo of the Year Award.
Now touring as lead guitarist and lead singer with country-rock legends Pure Prairie League, and lead singer for the country supergroup, Shenandoah, he gets to do it all. Work the road (he always loved the road), write, session player-producer, sing background vocals on records for such artists as: Tim McGraw, Travis Tritt, Trace Adkins, Darryl Worley, Reba McIntire, and The Eagle Tribute Album to name only a few. This summer, PPL, The "Geezers of Country Rock" is adding yet another chapter to their legacy. The group will record its first record in 1 year with Curtis and group founder/co-writer Craig Fuller, along with original members Mike Reilly, Mike Connor and Fats Kaplan of "The Tractors" fame and Rick Schell who also lends his talent to Allison Moore and his own local group, Pinmonkey.
