Phosphor Bronze and 80/20 Bronze String Comparison

Technique: Acoustic Guitar Set-Up

In addition to the choice of which gauge of string to use on your acoustic guitar, the type of string is an important consideration. Elixir® Acoustic Strings are available in both 80/20 Bronze and Phosphor Bronze, but which one is right for you? And what are the differences in the way they sound?

Filmed in a professional recording studio to allow direct comparison between the two string types, this video with Elixir strings artist Michael Watts features both fingerstyle and strummed passages. The differing playing styles helps to demonstrate the specific characteristics of the traditional 80/20 Bronze and more modern Phosphor Bronze options.

As Michael suggests, there's no right or wrong choice here - he uses each type for different playing situations. And you might find a different type useful to match with different guitars too.

I am very lucky to play instruments made by the world's finest guitar builders and I insist on Elixir Strings every time.
