Lesson: Double Pentatonic Scale
Technique: Electric Guitar Pentatonic Scale
"The pentatonic scale is the foundation of myriad guitar styles, from blues to funk to classic rock. It’s something we all learn early on, but it’s easy to get stuck “in the box” if you’re not careful.
One great method to expand your pentatonic horizons is to adopt what Elixir® Strings artist Quentin Angus describes as the “double pentatonic” scale. As he demonstrates, the double involves taking a minor pentatonic shape and combining with the “next door” major pentatonic – which gives a cool repeating note on adjacent strings. That gives a distinctive, unusual note pattern that you can incorporate in solos and riff ideas, so work on the stretches that you’ll need to reach the notes and have fun working on some new vibes!"
